Filigrana | A centuries-old craft reimagined
Some of the most contemporary objects begin with the oldest techniques.
Designed by Sebastian Wrong for Established & Sons, the Filigrana collection draws on a Venetian glassmaking tradition dating back to the 16th century. The technique, known as filigrana, involves fusing delicate coloured glass canes into molten glass before each piece is mouth-blown by skilled artisans. The result is the collection's distinctive striped surface—subtle, tactile and unique to every light.
What began as a collection of sculptural pendant lights has since evolved into a family of lighting that spans table lamps, portable lighting, wall and ceiling fixtures, and large-scale clustered installations. While each piece serves a different purpose, they are united by the same softly diffused light, refined proportions and unmistakable craftsmanship.
The latest additions to the collection continue this evolution. Filigrana Lantern introduces the collection's signature character in a portable, rechargeable form, designed to move effortlessly between indoor and outdoor settings. Meanwhile, the new Wall & Ceiling Light extends the collection into architectural applications, bringing the same handcrafted glass and timeless detailing to a wider range of interiors.
At every scale, Filigrana celebrates the dialogue between traditional making and contemporary design. Each light reflects not only the skill of the glassblower but the enduring relevance of techniques that have been refined over centuries.
The Filigrana collection by Established & Sons is now available through KFive.
