Petra is an Australian-made modular lounge collection designed by Helen Kontouris for residential, workplace, hospitality, education and public interiors.
Inspired by the softened forms of stones and pebbles, Petra combines generous upholstered forms with a flexible modular system that can be configured to suit spaces of different scales and functions. From a single lounge chair to larger settings for waiting, meeting, gathering and retreat, the collection is designed to adapt as the needs of a space change.

DESIGNED FOR SPECIFICATION

Petra was developed to give architects and interior designers greater flexibility without losing the character of a strong standalone piece.
A consistent CNC-cut backrest profile runs throughout the collection, simplifying manufacture while creating a unified design language across different configurations. The removable backrest also supports more efficient freight and storage, easier repair and the replacement of individual components over the life of the product.
This thinking was specifically recognised by the Australian Good Design Awards jury, which highlighted Petra’s balance of aesthetic refinement, commercial viability, environmental responsibility and durable construction.

Petra is manufactured in Australia, allowing the collection to combine local production with the flexibility required for contemporary interior projects.
Designed for longevity rather than replacement, its modular construction allows settings to be reconfigured, extended and maintained over time. This makes Petra equally relevant to residential interiors and higher-use environments including workplaces, hotels, restaurants, education and public spaces.

AUSTRALIAN GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2026
In 2026, Petra received an Australian Good Design Award in Product Design: Furniture and Lighting.
The jury recognised its bold organic forms alongside the thinking behind the system, including its consistent backrest construction, reduced manufacturing complexity and material waste, removable components and suitability across residential, hospitality, workplace and public environments.
