In 2013, KFive partnered with the Robin Boyd Foundation to bring a selection of architect Robin Boyd's original furniture designs into contemporary production.
Originally conceived for his iconic Walsh Street residence and other architectural projects, Boyd's furniture reflects his distinctive approach to modernist design. Defined by clean lines, considered proportions and an honest expression of materials, each piece was designed with everyday living in mind.
Working from Boyd's original archive, KFive collaborated with designers and local manufacturers to translate these designs into a collection that honours their architectural origins. Manufactured in Melbourne, the furniture celebrates Australian craftsmanship while preserving Boyd's commitment to simplicity, functionality and enduring quality.
Today, the Boyd Collection continues to find its place in contemporary residential, commercial and cultural spaces, carrying forward the legacy of one of Australia's most influential architects.

Robin Boyd: Architect, Designer, Visionary
Robin Boyd (1919–1971) was one of Australia's most influential architects, writers and design thinkers. A leading voice in Australian modernism, Boyd challenged conventional approaches to architecture, advocating for thoughtful, functional design that responded to the way Australians lived.
In 1958, Boyd designed his family home at 290 Walsh Street, South Yarra, now recognised as one of Australia's most significant modernist residences. Conceived as a complete architectural environment, the home featured furniture designed by Boyd himself, with each piece responding to the proportions, materials and character of the space.
From sofas and dining tables to occasional furniture, his designs reflected the same principles that shaped his architecture: simplicity, clarity of form and an honest approach to materials. Australian hardwoods, wool upholstery and cork were selected for their natural qualities, durability and everyday function.
More than half a century later, Boyd's work continues to influence Australian architecture and design, with his furniture remaining as relevant to contemporary interiors as it was to the spaces for which it was originally conceived.
Making Boyd: From Archive to Contemporary Production
In 2013, KFive partnered with the Robin Boyd Foundation to bring a selection of Boyd's original furniture designs into contemporary production, preserving an important part of Australia's design heritage.
Working from archival material and original design references, the project brought together graphic designer Gary Emery, specialist makers and local manufacturing expertise to carefully translate Boyd's furniture into a commercially available collection.
Manufactured in Melbourne, each piece remains faithful to Boyd's original design intent, with careful attention given to proportions, construction, materials and finishes. Australian hardwoods, considered upholstery selections and refined detailing reflect the collection's commitment to quality, craftsmanship and longevity.
The result is a collection that honours its architectural origins while allowing Boyd's designs to be experienced beyond the buildings for which they were first created.
