CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF ZANAT
A brand shaped by heritage, innovation, and a deep commitment to craft.
A decade ago, Zanat launched as an international design brand, building on a century-long legacy of hand-carved woodcraft in Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At K5, we’re proud to represent Zanat and share their story with Australian architects and designers — a story rooted in tradition, recognised by UNESCO, and carried forward by the fourth generation of the Niksic family.
What sets Zanat apart is not only their UNESCO-listed woodcarving technique, but how they’ve reimagined it through collaborations with some of the world’s leading designers. The result: poetic, purposeful, collectible pieces that speak to the future — while honouring the past.
Here’s to ten years of Zanat, and many more to come.
UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE MEETS EXTRAORDINARY DESIGN
The Niksic family has been creating heirloom-quality furniture in the Bosnian town of Konjic for four generations. Their story begins in 1919, when the eldest brother of the family formally registered the business, building on techniques passed down from their father.
Today, many of the original pieces made by the family are still preserved and admired in historic homes and museums across South-East Europe. Some have even been named National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Thanks to the work of Zanat and generations of local artisans, Konjic has become known for its distinct woodcarving style. In 2017, this tradition was officially recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
We’re honoured to share this story through Zanat’s contemporary designs, which carry the depth and soul of a craft shaped over centuries.
UNIVERSAL SUSTAINABILITY MANIFESTO – A PATH FORWARD
Zanat is committed to proving that craftsmanship, sustainability and ethical production can sit at the heart of a successful business.
Their approach is grounded in a simple idea — to look closely at every part of the process and ensure it reflects care, quality and responsibility. From material sourcing to cultural preservation, Zanat is building a model that others can learn from.
“Sustainability can't be like some sort of a moral sacrifice or political dilemma or a philanthropical cause. It has to be a design challenge”
— Bjarke Ingels
