Projects of design integrity: Victorian Architecture Awards announced
For 25 years, KFive has worked alongside the Australian architecture and design community. The relationships formed along the way are what the business is built on. As a returning sponsor of the Australian Institute of Architects' Victorian Architecture Awards, KFive is proud to support and celebrate the work of a community we have long called our own.
This year KFive sponsored the Interior Architecture category, a discipline where space, craft and furniture converge. “This is our way of giving back and celebrating the discipline where furniture, craft and space come together. It reflects who we are as a business that backs design integrity borne from expertise and skill,” comments Erna Walsh, CEO of KFive.
"The work recognised in the Interior Architecture category values craft, materiality and longevity – as do we,” says Erna. “The brands we represent are built on genuine making traditions, and great interiors deserve furniture conceived with the same care. That shared standard is where KFive and the Victorian Architecture Awards meet."
Congratulations to all winners, announced on 19 June. Interior Architecture Winners and Commendations appear below.
Sunbury Community Arts & Cultural Precinct
The Marion Mahony Award for Interior Architecture – Partners Hill for Studio8
Taking out the top award, Partners Hill received The Marion Mahony Award for Interior Architecture for Studio8, a remarkable project for its higher purpose in tackling housing supply and affordability.
Located within Roy Grounds’ 1941 Quamby housing block, the project transforms a vacant communal laundry in the building's undercroft into a template for unlocking housing stock in Australian cities. Humble, discreet and highly practical, Studio8 is a generous home which feels spatially rich despite its constrained footprint.
The jury was impressed by the project’s ability to challenge conventions around standards, dimensions and domestic living, awarding it as an exemplar of interior architecture that can profoundly reshape the experience of small living.
Award for Interior Architecture (VIC) – Architecture Associates with Openwork, for Sunbury Community Arts & Cultural Precinct
Architecture Associates with Openwork received an Awards for Sunbury Community Arts & Cultural Precinct. This project demonstrates interior architecture’s capacity to act as a vessel for shared memory, community identity and collective healing. Former institutional interiors have been carefully adapted into galleries, studios, workshops and performance spaces that feel contemporary while remaining connected to the existing fabric.
The jury highlighted the sophistication and generosity with which the project balances retention, repair and insertion across a complex heritage setting.
