Saturday InDesign X K5

For the love of art, craft and design, Saturday Indesign was filled with inspiration, great conversations and catchups.

It was a pleasure to see so many faces visit our showroom, enjoy our engaging talks, view beautifully crafted furniture and our new Boyd 2 furniture collection.

We began the day with an insightful design discussion - For the Love of Art, featuring Tetsuya Ozaki from HIDA Sangyo, contemporary Australian artist Dean Bowen, K5 CEO Erna Walsh, and moderated by Aleesha Callahan, editor of Habitus.

We learnt about the generational craft skills passed down through HIDA traditional woodwork techniques with an appreciation for the small details in every piece. Dean Bowen shared his story behind his paintings, and sculptures exhibited in our showroom, celebrating these various forms of art and design. Erna spoke to the increase in wood carving and crafted techniques across furniture ranges and spoke on what makes a collectable furniture piece. View our collectable product series here!

The day marked a big milestone for the K5 Boyd Collection with the launch of Boyd 2, comprising of a new sofa and coffee table. Jill Garner and Patrick Kennedy board members from the Robin Boyd Foundation joined us to launch the new range.

We ended the day with a craft conversation with Masanao Hamaguchi of HIDA Sangyo and Suzette Jackson, K5 circularity lead, taking a deeper dive into design thinking of HIDA and their techniques of bent wood and compressed Japanese cedar wood. Learn more about HIDA in our collectable article here.

Thank you to our guest panellists for contributing to our ongoing conversation on the importance of design longevity, art and craft, and collectable furniture.
