Milan Design Week 2023

​This year’s edition of the world-renowned design exhibition brought together the latest innovations from stunning furniture pieces to cutting-edge technology, captivating visitors with its unparalleled showcase of creativity and innovation.​​

In a city synonymous with architecture, art and design, Milan Design Week engaged the whole city, transforming it into a vibrant hub of exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and installations. The central theme of this year’s event was “Designing a Better Future”, reflecting a renewed emphasis on sustainable, eco-friendly, and circular practices within design by both designers and brands.

Montbel delighted attendees with their striking new collections featuring an array of bolds colours and innovative designs. The event was the perfect platform to showcase of their latest creations, including modular sofas, easy chairs, poufs, and lounge chairs.

The star of the show, Maja, is a soft and light, yet robust armchair collection celebrating the comfort and beauty. Maja is versatile with a variety of bases available.

With flexibility as a must have in an ever-changing environment, the Chanel modular sofa comprises trapezoidal elements adaptable to suit diversity of seating. The collection features interchangeable geometries rounded back corners and the option for a backrest.

Like a warm embrace, the new Sofia collection is framed with delicate rounded lines. Where the Tablet collection offers a unique seating arrangement, with the choice of a high-back on the easy chair and sofa or a paired back pouf to consolidate the collection.

Teatro Zanat: The Art of Creating, a truly experiential theatre, explored the artistry of hand carving techniques, spotlighting a range of new and timeless products. Within a theatrically lit space visitors were introduced to four exceptional pieces created in collaboration with renowned international designers: the Kiam console table, Nest coat hanger, Sava chair and Veo screen.

Jean-Marie Massaud’s Kiam console table, part of the Kiam cabinets collection, mesmerized viewers with its distinctive features. The table’s architectural support structures, created by interlocking leg endings with horizontal support beams, exuded a sense of elegance.

Monica Förster’s Nest coat hanger was a standout addition to Zanat’s collection of sculptural objects. It’s visual appearance aptly resembled a mystical tree, featuring branches on top and a practical bowl underneath. The coat hanger truly embodied the concept of a ‘nest’, a place where personal objects find refuge.

Sebastian Herkner’s Veo screen captivated views with its architectural allure. Crafted from round, originally shaped pieces of solid wood, this decorative art piece resembled the ability to simultaneously conceal and reveal, adding an air of mystique to any space.


Abstracta – Salone del Mobile. Milano Exhibition Space

Abstracta showcased their new acoustic and lighting solutions for every interior.

One of the highlights of Abstracta's display was the introduction of the new dual acoustic lighting piece, Moon. This seamlessly combines acoustic functionality with sophisticated lighting, providing a versatile lighting solution with sound management.

Abstracta also announced an exciting collaboration with the renowned art platform Wall of Art (link to product page) artworks combined with Abstracta's exceptional acoustic solutions.

Abstracta's extensive range of acoustic solutions was prominently featured at the event. From the Zen Pod, Agile, Holly, and Scala XL to the Sarah and dB systems, these offerings exemplify Abstracta's dedication to harmonizing functionality and aesthetics, catering to the evolving needs of modern interiors.


Karl Andersson & Söner - Salone del Mobile. Milano Exhibition Space

​KARL ANDERSSON & SÖNER

Karl Andersson & Söne​​r, the iconic Swedish design brand, celebrate a significant milestone of 125 years. Their furniture at Salone del Mobile.Milano, showcased the timeless beauty and Scandinavian material palette that has become synonymous with their brand.

A new interpretation of the Sander chair was introduced with the Sander Lounge and Sander Conference chairs. These chairs present a fresh interpretation of the classic 1950s, log-cabin armchair with gracefully curved veneer backs and gentle lines to create a modern and distinct design style.

Also released was the Locus table a captivating centrepiece designed to bring people together. The designer has created a table made entirely of wood, this approach lends to the initiative of sustainable and regenerative design strategy within the Scandinavian ethos


Nikari – Salone del Mobile. Milano Exhibition Space

​​Sharing a stall with their sister company ‘Woodnotes’, Nikari, showcased a stunning range of new designs and returning classics at Salone del Mobile.Milano. Drawing inspiration from naturalistic design principles, Nikari introduced the captivating ‘Centennial” table and, the “Storia” spoke-back chair as a tribute to the Finnish design heritage.  

The “Centennial” table, a creation by acclaimed designer Joanna Laajisto, exemplifies Nikari’s commitment to harmony and tranquillity in design. This innovation piece features wood that is over a hundred years old, emphasising the material’s true character through its unique colour variations, cracks and marks.

Nikari pays homage to Franck, the father of modern Finnish design, with their latest creation, the “Storia” spoke-back chair. Designed by Nikari’s visionary leader – Kari Virtanen, the chair seamlessly merges the long-standing tradition of the spoke-back chair with modern elements and dimensions.

This year, Segis unveiled their latest collection ‘Carell’, including an armchair & sofa, alongside a visually captivating ‘Tinman’ coffee table simultaneously designed by Alejandro Valdes.

The ‘Carell’ resonates a strong graphic character with clean, defined lines and a practical and functional design that exudes sophistication. This collection from Segis has been thoughtfully crafter to meet the demands of health care environments and working spaces.

Valdes, ‘Tin Man’ Coffee table was a standout piece within Segis’s hub. Blending seamlessly with Segis’s existing collections, this table adds a playful and elegant touch to any space.

The Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023 has concluded, and what an incredible event it was!
